Photos & Description
The Golden Leas Club is the place to enjoy a relaxing drink with friends or a snack or a meal from our food bar. For adults, we have a comfortable “adults only” lounge bar area with real log fire. Adults can also enjoy a quiet game of pool and darts in our comfortable “Match Room”.
The main hall with its own bar, dance floor and stage provides seating for both adults and younger customers where they can enjoy our entertainment programme which runs throughout the season. We also regularly run a popular adults bingo with excellent prize money.
The lounge bar has a large plasma TV and the main hall has a projection screen and we show many live premiership football matches through the season on our Sky TV system. It’s a great place to watch the game with friends.
Finally, for our younger customers, we have a great children’s room with its own pool table, table tennis table, TV viewing and sitting area, and amusement arcade. Show Swimming Pool Our pool is a focal point for cool days of fun in the Summer. It’s a great place to relax in the sunshine and there is a generous supply of sunbeds available for your comfort. Our terrace bar serves teas and coffees, ice lollies, soft drinks, cakes and other simple snacks to enjoy in the pool area and if you get really hungry you can always go and get a tasty burger from our food kiosk in the Club.
The pool area has two heated outdoor pools, the main pool being almost 20 metres long with an average depth of 1.1 metres and the small pool which has a gentle slope going down from zero depth to a maximum depth of 0.4 metres at the deep end and is great for little ones. We operate the pools from the second weekend in May to the second weekend in September and generally from 10.00am to 6.00 pm each day subject to weather. At weekends and busy school holiday times the pool has an attendant on duty, but at other times you can use the pool on request from the office.
We like to use the pool area for events as well as just general swimming and each year in August we run a very successful and popular Swimming Gala. Over the years we have also held many pool parties and barbeques in the pool area and in the summer we often have a DJ playing music by the pool and entertaining the kids. Caravan Sales We offer a selection of caravan holiday homes from £5000 upwards. Prices include current season pitch fees, steps, TV aerial, free gas bottle and siting on pitch with all connections to services. We also sell verandahs, we can arrange caravan insurance, and we can provide financing (subject to status) through Black Horse Caravan Finance. All caravans are checked and gas tested by a CORGI engineer before handover and come with a comprehensive warranty.
A Bit of Golden Leas History
When Golden Leas was first started in 1960 it was originally known as the Endeavour Caravan Park. The site was then purchased by well known local businessman George Wharton (I think he bought it at the end of the seventies) and he changed the name to White Horse Caravan Park. In August 1997 Mr Wharton sold the business to a Mr Kevern Leigh who changed the name again to Golden Leas Holiday Park. Mr Leigh only had the business for six months and I purchased Golden Leas from him in January 1998 retaining the Golden Leas name. I thought you might be interested in the two pictures below. The first is of the old Endeavour Clubhouse, probably taken in the 1960s (fifty years ago!). The second picture is of the White Horse Clubhouse, I think probably taken in the early 1980s. Our current Clubhouse is partly the same building but extended on the front. The photos were given to me by Zoe Plumb whose Nan used to have a caravan here in the old days. Many thanks Zoe for sending them to me.
