Just done south coast from bham in 1.8 Vectra pulling van approx. 950kg think I averaged about 27mpg is this any good? novice vanner

Not bad considering the size of your engine and the size of your caravan I pull a 1500kg caravan with a volvo xc 70 which is 2.4 diesel and 175 brake horsepower and I average 30mpg or just under depending on the terrain.

2011 Seat Alhambra (same as the newest design VW Sharan) 2ltr 138bhp diesel 6 speed auto pulling 1000 kilo van from Cheltenham to Cornwall and back averages 30 - 31 mpg, so your Vectra is doing just fine :-)

Bedfordshire to Bala with Skoda Octavia 105Ps TDi and Eriba Troll 40.2 mpg
Thats got to be better than most (37.8 on return using A5 all the way to avoid Major hold up on M6)

I average 35 in a Nissan qashqai towing Venus 490/4 1.5 diesel 1200kg van which I feel is very good.
