Brantwood was the home of eminent Victorian, John Ruskin, from 1872 until his death in 1900. All areas of the original house and those which he himself added, are open to the public. Most of the furniture and all the paintings and objects are original to the house. Brantwood has a spectacular location with views across Coniston Water. The 250-acre estate comprises 8 distinctive gardens, ancient woodland, high moors and pastures and features Ruskin's own experimental landscape ideas.
