Family home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Landsdowne, Robert Adam's Diocletian wing of a once larger house includes magnificent orangery, library, chapel, sculpture gallery (with famous Lansdowne Marble) and the laboratory where Joseph Priestley discovered oxygen in 1774. There are fine collections of costumes, watercolours and Napoleonic and Indian treasures. Features: The 'Capability' Brown park is one of his best, with a lake, temple and cascade. There are also a pinetum, arboretum, parterres, spectacular seasonal rhododendron gardens and an outstanding adventure playground.
