With is North Sea coastline being a designated area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Northumberland is a charming county. It’s not just the 64 mile long distance coastal path that makes Northumberland a great place for campers and caravanners but also the fact that the county is noted for its undeveloped landscape of high moorland, an absolute must for walkers, ramblers and with landscape painters. Much of the area is now largely protected as a National Park, therefore its natural beauty it kept. Keep your eyes open for the wildlife!
The peace and tranquil nature of the area comes from it being the most sparsely populated county in England, with only 62 people per square kilometre, this might be linked to county’s history where Northumberland became a wild county of sorts, where outlaws and Border Reivers hid from the law. Today however its crime rate is low due to its rural nature.
